Hippies had faith in future, they thought they will change the system with flower power and free love. Theirs was a fun revolution.

The current unhappies see no way to change the world, theirs is a revolution of depression and resignation.

Drugs, sex, music, it all has been tried and none of it works: the old men are still in power and the world is stuck in the past. Young ones escape into fake reality which reflects their values and desires better than the failing world around them.
